International student adds to her adventures

Mexican exchange student Sofia Aureoles Geymonat has spent the last year living in Nelson and studying at Nayland College. She certainly knows how to make the most of her time. She has gone on trips to French Pass with Marine Science, to the West Coast with geography and ends her time in NZ by attending a forum with the Youth United Nations in Vanuatu and Melbourne. Jazz band tastes success

Jazz Band

Nine Nayland students took part in the Southern Jam Jazz Festival in Blenheim last month. The students attended a master class practice at Marlborough Boys’ College to improve their pieces in readiness for the competition.  Staying in a Picton backpackers with no television meant the students had plenty of time to work on their songs, changing, rearranging and even learning some new ones. Maths competition results add up

Maths competition

Once again Maths Week saw students and teachers around the school answering questions and competing in challenges ranging from logic to geometric puzzles to listing uses for maths in the real world. The highlight was the great pi-off, where students either say or write as many decimal places of pi as they can. A new record of 350 places with no mistakes was set by Nick Whittington. We have received our confirmed ERO Review Report following ERO’s Term 2 visit to Nayland College this year. Unlike previous years the new reporting format does not provide a summary version for parents – instead the entire Report has been written for parents.
