Trades Academy underway

Shane Tawa at Twizel taking part in the Grass Kart Challenge

An initial group of approximately 20 Nayland students were a key part of the Trades Academy that opened in March this year along with students from five other colleges within the region. They have had some exciting opportunities to explore training options and how the “world of work” could look for them.

It’s not all just fun trips, free tickets and food. The students undertake a number of written assessments that work towards a National Certificate while also working towards getting their NCEA Level 2 at school.

LSC student efforts recognised

LSC Prizegiving

The Learning Support Centre had their prizegiving on 23 November where a number of students were recognised for their effort and attitude throughout the year. It was an emotional affair with several students being farewelled, along with RTLB Lynn Hume who has done great work with LSC students. A record number of parents, invited guests and staff attended and they  were treated to a very enjoyable morning with a highlight being a fantastic rendition of ‘I can see clearly now’ sung by LSC student Leo Lloyd.
